Stockton, Ken

About the Artist

As a boy growing up in southern California, Ken loved to draw and paint--but his real obsession was nature. He was particularly entranced by the desert, and this fascination continued into adulthood, eventually leading him to Tucson's Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, where he served as Director of Design & Planning. However, a rekindled passion for painting prompted him to launch a part-time side career as an artist, and in 2007, after years of juggling both endeavors, he left the museum in order to paint full-time. Most of Ken's work depicts natural or rural landscapes of the western United States, with a special emphasis on the Sonoran and Mojave Deserts.

In addition to plein air workshops from artists Matt Smith, Ray Roberts, and Phil Starke, Ken has completed various courses in sculpting, drawing, and painting from San Bernardino Community College, Brigham Young University, and the University of Utah. In 1990 he received a B.S. in Landscape Architecture from the University of California, Davis, and is a registered Landscape Architect in the State of Arizona.

Ken was featured in Southwest Art Magazine's "Artists to Watch" column, February 2005.
